Unlike some of the other travel money cards, there are no fees when you spend Australian dollars in Australia. So after you activate the card, you can make a small withdrawal from an ATM in Australia so you’re familiar with how the card works before you leave and also to check that it actually works.
The downside to this card is that apart from the limited number of currencies that can be loaded onto the card, you can’t load Asian currencies on this card, so unless you’re fine with paying cross currency conversion charges, it’s not the best card for travel to Asia.
Also, if you need help and call their customer service centre, they’ll charge you $4 per call, and 50c if you use their automated telephone enquiry service.
